Lithium brines are a type of geothermal brine that contains lithium, a key component in the production of lithium-ion batteries, used in electric vehicles and other applications. Lithium brines are formed when hot water rich in lithium and other minerals flows through underground rock formations, depositing the minerals as it cools. The brines are often found in sedimentary basins, such as ancient lake beds or salt flats, where the right conditions for lithium deposition have occurred. Lithium brines are typically extracted through a process known as solution mining, where the brine is pumped to the surface and then treated to extract the lithium and other minerals. The extracted lithium is then used to produce lithium-ion batteries, which are used in a wide range of applications, from consumer electronics to electric vehicles and renewable energy systems.
